Where can I find a replacement microphone for my David Clark H10-13.4 aviation headset?
My microphone has stopped working on my David Clark H10-13.4 headset – do I need to replace it? Where can I find a cheap replacement microphone?
First thing you always want to check when your aviation microphone stops working is your cable and connectors.
Sometimes the microphone will be working fine, but there is an intermittent connection somewhere in your headset that might be causing the issues you are experiencing.
Before concluding that your microphone is bad, first plug in your headset like normal and wiggle, jiggle, and push on all the cables in different spots. Specifically near or around the connectors and ear cup of the headset. While you are doing this, if you hear scratching noises coming from the headset where you can hear your voice on and off – then your microphone is functioning fine and you should investigate your cable or connectors.
You should also play with your flex boom to detect any loose wires or connections – wires inside the flex boom can break over time.
If you are getting no response, or you think your cable is fine – a new microphone is the next step. The David Clark H10-13.4 headset uses a flex-style boom microphone called the M-7A Amplified Electret.
You can purchase a replacement David Clark M-7A microphone from their online store for $77.50
Acousticom also manufactures a replacement version of the M-7A for $30.
